Meet and Greet: Jesse Buchoz

SAN MARCOS, TX -- Meet Jessica “Jesse” Buchoz – the Event Media Coordinator for the Hays County Food Bank. Jessie is currently in charge of maintaining the website, goes to events and she manages the social media accounts for the food bank.

Jesse first got started with the Hays County Food Bank as an intern while she was attending Texas State University as a Public Relations major during the Spring of 2012.

“I chose non-profit PR because I wanted a job that helps people,” said Jesse. “Even though I don’t work out in the warehouse, hands-on delivering the food to people, I still promote what we do here and get more donors.”

Jesse began working at the Hays County Food Bank as a full-time staff member as of September of 2012 and was hired on as the Administrative Support Coordinator helping Jane Moore, who is currently the Community Relations Coordinator. The organization is made up of a total of nine full-time staffers.

The assumption that many believe is that those who go to food banks for help are homeless or lazy, but Jessie says that’s not really the case.

“A lot of people are just in a bad situation – can’t pay their bills for a few months,” said Jesse. “Elderly people are a big percentage of who our clients are, a lot of families, so it’s a wide range.”

The Hays County Food bank distributes food to those in need on-site Mondays through Thursdays, and one some of those days there are several distribution times. The Hays County Food Bank also distributes to many different places in the area including San Marcos, Kyle and Lockhart.
