Time Spent With The Community

By Kylie Keller

Hundreds of people in the San Marcos area are impacted by the Hays County Food Bank every week.

The distributions vary each day on times and locations to make it more convenient for the community to be able to attend.  The food choices vary from loaves of bread, dinner rolls, and canned food items.

The people that benefit from the food bank have numerous reasons for needing the additional help.

Larry Cohen of San Marcos has been a part of the Food Bank for about six years.  Larry said that it makes things easier on people who are “working with a fixed income.”

Larry was a weekly volunteer for about four and a half year as a delivery driver.  After all of the time being a man helping those in need, Larry found himself needing some additional help as well.  Larry has been one of the few people to be able to experience both aspects of the Food Bank; A place to give back to the community and as a place that will provide dinner on the table for him and his family.

Although Larry is not able to spend as much time as he used to volunteering, he still makes it a point to spend at least three hours a week driving vans for the Food Bank with his stepson.
